Report on the last outing at Lewes Golf club:
Dear Hogs,
Well what a glorious day we had at Lewes with bright warm sunshine and only the slightest breeze ( not!)
Thanks to everyone for keeping their distance from each other and not arriving too early for coffee and bacon roll. I have to say the views were stunning and the course played well despite the poor tees ( fed back to LGC). What fun we had trying to stop the balls on the greens and driving uphill into the wind. I know some were a little disappointed with their rounds but when you think the average score was 26.6 points, it wasn’t so bad.
What a pleasure it was to present the prizes outdoor in the sunshine overlooking the 18th green and realising most people go through it.
As I mentioned in a previous email LGC are currently not allowing longest drives etc so prizes were for birdies on par 3....... there were none. However Richard Landolt managed a birdie on the par 4 15th which, with two shots in hand, was a net one and 5 points. This was just as well as this accounted for more than 25% of his total score ( sorry Richard to build you up only to shoot you down). He deserved a prize and rightly got one.
The best front 9 was hotly contested by messrs Chudley and Hemsley with 17 points, the former winning on count back. Only the winner managed as many points on the front 9 into the wind so well done guys.
The best back 9 by far was Mr Wicker with 20pts whose comments of “ easy game this golf” were in stark contrast to what he was saying on the front 9 where he scored considerably less than 20.
And so to the winners Vanessa with a steady 32 and Jerry with a fortuitous 34 ( his words) prove that the Hog handicap system is working. Put in some more cards you two or face further savagery from the Hog handicap committee.
Another person facing a handicap adjustment is the winner. I don’t think I have seen anyone so proud and ecstatic ( not ) to take the Hog home as the winner who, with 37 points ( she forgot the 18th was a par 5 for ladies in the Hog), was streets ahead of the pack. So her words to me that morning“ don’t you dare bring that ugly pig back home with you” came back to bite her.
So well done Alison ??? handicap for Hogs now cut by 3.
We do have provisional date for a social gathering and golf at Crowborough on the 1st of November. Honestly I can’t see this happening so more information nearer the time if it is going ahead.
Until then, stay safe, play golf and remember alcohol in all it’s forms has antiseptic properties.???
Cheers
The Hogmeister
