Some of you may have seen the BBC article with the last 'normal' photo on people's phones, which obviously led me to take a look... It turns out the day before I started my lockdown was a cold and windy day in Folkestone, as the Men's 3rd XI took on a Folkestone team at Three Hills Sports Park on the 14th March.
At the time we knew it was a big match, with 2nd placed Marden only a point behind us and our planned final game against the league whipping-boys who had already been relegated. We didn't know it would be the last time we'd play team sports for months, but a 4-1 win guaranteed us promotion at least.
Nearly two months on, following a rowdy men's Zoom dinner with the leagues still undecided, a very understated South League notice confirmed the leagues had been decided and the positions would remain as they were. The 3's were champions!
With everything else happening in the world, it is not something to celebrate wildly, but having won the Kent Open Prem B last season, to win back to back titles is nevertheless a great achievement and down to a great team spirit, and in no small part thanks to many of the juniors coming through the club. Thanks to everyone who helped us along the way - players, umpires, committee members, parents and of course Lee for keeping us well nourished!
I don't know about you, but I can't wait to take some 'normal' photos again and I hope to see some of you for some summer hockey in August - fingers crossed.
